Since February 2018, it is advisable to avoid the Kenya-Somalia border counties of Mandera, Wajir and Garissa. Also, the coastal areas that include the territory of Tana River, the county of Lamu and the areas of Kalifi, north of Malindi. 

It is also advisable to stay out of the Eastleigh neighbourhood in Nairobi at all times and the area of the old town of Mombasa after dark. 

Even though there are certain areas in the big cities in Kenya that should be avoided, all the main tourist attractions are not included in any of these restricted areas, so you will not miss anything important. Just make sure you stay in a safe neighborhood and be cautious.

Is Kenya safe to visit for tourists?
